a great movie and a wonderful video essay. i think this is an underrated movie of the decade. im not seeing it on alot of top 10s but i appreciate the critical analysis put in here. unpacking "the look" and also the narrative you see just how complex and frankly unsettling the movie is. i love it!

Thank you Dan - if you do rewatch it please let me know your impressions! I know it's infuriating near the end but upon rewatching it as a narrative pretzel a la MULHOLLAND DR. it ends up being a lot of fun.

By The Bluest of Seas is indeed a beautiful and sensual visual poem, and a very spiritual film. There is something prelapsarian in the innocence and joy portrayed.
